You've booked your Headspa appointment, and the anticipation is building! Soon, you'll be sinking into a state of blissful relaxation while your scalp and hair receive some much-needed TLC. But did you know that a little preparation beforehand can significantly enhance your Headspa experience and maximise its benefits?
Just like you wouldn't run a marathon without training, you don't want to go into your Headspa session without a few simple steps to ensure you get the most out of your treatment. Here are the essential Dos and Don'ts to consider before your Headspa appointment:
The DOS Before Your Headspa:
DO Communicate Your Concerns: This is paramount! Before your session, take a moment to consider any specific scalp issues (dryness, oiliness, flakiness, itchiness, sensitivity), hair concerns (damage, thinning, frizz), or overall goals you have. Share these with your Headspa therapist during your consultation. The more information they have, the better they can tailor the treatment to your needs.
DO Arrive with Hair That's Not Too Clean or Too Dirty: Ideally, your hair should be "day old" clean, meaning it hasn't been washed within 24 hours but also isn't excessively greasy or loaded with product. This allows your therapist to accurately assess your natural scalp condition and for the treatments to effectively penetrate without battling layers of buildup.
DO Detangle Your Hair Gently: A quick, gentle detangle before you arrive will make it easier for your therapist to work through your hair without unnecessary pulling, especially if you have long or easily tangled hair.
DO Wear Comfortable Clothing: You'll be relaxing for a while, possibly lying down or leaning back. Choose loose, comfortable clothing that won't restrict you and will allow you to fully unwind.
DO Remove Accessories: If you wear earrings, necklaces, or other accessories that might get in the way or become uncomfortable during the treatment, it's best to remove them beforehand.
DO Stay Hydrated: Drink water throughout the day leading up to your appointment. Good internal hydration supports overall well-being, which contributes to healthy hair and scalp.
DO Arrive on Time (or a little early!): This allows you to check in, relax, and discuss your needs with your therapist without feeling rushed, setting a calm tone for your experience.
The DON'TS Before Your Headspa:
DON'T Apply Excessive Styling Products: Avoid heavy gels, mousses, hairsprays, or dry shampoo on the day of your appointment. These can create a barrier on your scalp and hair, making it harder for the Headspa products to penetrate effectively and assess your true scalp condition.
DON'T Color Your Hair Right Before: If you're planning to color your hair, it's generally best to do so after your Headspa, or at least a few days before, depending on the type of color and Headspa treatment. Some Headspa treatments can potentially affect fresh color, and conversely, fresh color can sometimes make the scalp more sensitive to certain treatments. When in doubt, ask your colorist and Headspa salon.
DON'T Use Harsh Shampoos or Conditioners: In the day or two leading up to your Headspa, avoid using harsh clarifying shampoos or anything that might strip your hair or irritate your scalp. You want your scalp to be in its natural state for the assessment.
DON'T Over-Exfoliate Your Scalp: If you use a scalp scrub at home, skip it for at least 24-48 hours before your Headspa. You don't want to over-exfoliate or make your scalp overly sensitive before a professional treatment.
DON'T Be Afraid to Ask Questions: If you have any allergies, sensitivities, or just general questions about the process, don't hesitate to ask when you book or upon arrival.
By following these simple guidelines, you'll be perfectly prepped to receive the maximum benefits from your Headspa treatment, ensuring a deeply relaxing and truly effective experience for your scalp and hair.
Get ready to unwind!
